Discovering what outdoor activities people most enjoy is key in planning and providing outdoor recreation opportunities. In the past, needs assessments and participation studies used in outdoor recreation plans and, in particular, the Arizona Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) have not incorporated the needs and desires of young people. However, young people represent a sizable segment of our population that places a heavy demand on our resources. The Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coordinating Commission and the Arizona State Parks Board recognized this oversight in our planning and, as a result, proposed a study to gather the needed recreation data from Arizona youth. The information gathered in this study helped us target young people with our programs, thereby increasing their participation in and enjoyment of these activities. In a day and age when young people often feel alienated from and ignored by the adult world, park and recreation programs that address young peoples interests likely will be more effective in keeping kids in sports and recreation programs and away from the dangers of the streets.

By Geoff Fein While the Coast Guards effort to convert eight 110-foot cutters to 123- foot vessels continues to draw the attention and ire of lawmakers and watchdogs, the service has been successfully renovating 20 of its 110 fleet to keep them in service until the Fast Response Cutter (FRC) arrives. The Coast Guard is also renovating a number of its 210-foot and 270-foot Medium Endurance Cutters as part of the Mission Effectiveness Project (MEP), Ken King, project manager (PM) of 110-foot, 210-foot and 270-foot MEPs, told Defense Daily in a recent interview. A design defect compromised the physical integrity of the eight cutters and led to the inability of the boats to meet the performance requirements of the contract. That, in turn, led the Coast Guard to issue a letter of revocation for the eight 123-foot patrol boats in June 2007 (Defense Daily, Jan. .
Introduction The role of surgery in diabetic foot disease is mainly restricted to managing the complications of advanced disease in the neuropathic or ischaemic foot. The aim is to achieve an intact foot presented flat to the floor that will spread loads evenly and avoid areas of high peak pressure. Collaboration with podiatric and orthotic services is required to ensure an even distribution of pressure during walking. This becomes even more important when the shape of the foot is radically altered by surgical intervention. The principle non-operative role for vascular surgeons is to advise on the vascularity of the foot. This can be far from straightforward but should include ankle brachial pressure index and duplex ultrasound measurements if these are abnormal. Severe ischaemia is associated with a high mortality and this should be taken into consideration if complex surgery with a prolonged hospital stay is planned (Howell MA et al, 1989). An adequate blood supply is a prerequisite for most foot surgery. Its absence significantly limits surgical options and may indicate the need for revascularisation prior to any other intervention. If this cannot be achieved, then limb loss may be inevitable.

This is most commonly reported in association with chemotherapy (3) and occurs through classical Pavlovian conditioning. If post chemotherapy nausea and vomiting does not occur then ANV is very unlikely.
Abstract: This article presents the inclusion of parents in hypnotherapy with children. Understanding the process helps parents to better support and reinforce the childs desired changes. Also mentioned is the need to prepare children prior to the session to eliminate anxiety. This knowledge provides a more relaxed and focused experience in session. The examples given of using hypnotherapy with children support the conclusion that hypnotherapy is a valuable technique to implement to have children remain focused, recall memories, identify core issues, change behaviors, and access a deep level of healing. In this article I share my experiences of using Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy with children. I discuss what information to share with parents when suggesting the use of hypnotherapy with their child, and how to prepare the child for the hypnotherapy session. I then give examples of how hypnotherapy helps children remain focused, recall memories, identify core issues, change behaviors, and access a deep level of healing. When approaching parents with the idea of using hypnotherapy with their child, I briefly explain the hypnotherapy process. During the discussion with parents and children, it is important to use words that would be most familiar to them. For example, I substitute “guided imagery” for “induction.” While discussing the session with parents, I mention the likelihood of the child needing to release stored energy. I explain some of the possible tools the child may use to release this energy, such as an “energy release hose” and punching bag. I have found it better to explain this before the session rather than after. Once, after a session, a young child told his parent how good it felt to hit a punching bag with a hose. This parent was upset at first, but after explaining the rationale behind getting the child to release his pent up energy the parent was accepting. However, explaining it beforehand could have eliminated the parents immediate misconception of her child being “out of control.” If after explaining the hypnotherapy process the parent still feels unsure, I may offer the parent an opportunity to do the “guided imagery” segment with the child. I have found it reassuring for parents to experience the self-control the child will have during and after the session.

Part A consisting of 9 chapters covers foundational material on systems theory and how that can be applied to organic systems and to hypnosis. It discusses positive feedback loops that amplify the process and negative feedback loops that subdue the process. Positive feedback amplification can be either beneficial or harmful depending on whether increasing the effect is desired, while negative feedback calming can be either beneficial or harmful depending on whether decreasing the effect is desired. Morgan focuses on the activity of a system, the activity of its component subsystems, or the activity of the supersystem of which the system is a component. His main theoretical focus is on whether the activity of the system is increasing, decreasing, or staying the same, as other components change in specified ways. Hypnosis is described in systems terms, not as a “state,” but rather in terms of what system or subsystem components are changed, either increased or decreased, during trance induction, deepening, maintenance, trance work, and termination. He uses simple symbols to represent activities in quasi-mathematical style, which is helpful. Some of the letter symbols are used for different activities in different parts of the book. It would have been easier to follow if given letter symbols had been used more consistently to represent single specific activities. Some of his textual references to others publications are found in the bibliography at the end of the book, but some are unfortunately not present in the bibliography. He goes through common hypnotic tests in Chapter 8 and inductions in Chapter 9 explaining them in systems terms. This does produce some greater conceptual clarity with respect to subsystem component activities during hypnosis. Part B consisting of 6 chapters is the central discussion on what the systems approach can teach us about hypnotherapy. Chapter 10 discusses the matter of diagnosis in systems terms looking at precursors, problems, and resultants, and how they change with respect to one another. Chapter 11 focuses on positive and negative feedback loops in organic systems including behavioral, emotive, and cognitive. The vicious circle is a positive feedback loop with harmful consequences. Thinking in systems terms may make needed changes clearer to the therapist. Chapter 12 looks at the consequences of symptom reduction. The remaining three chapters in this part examine making changes by choosing the appropriate positive feedback loops to amplify desired effects and the appropriate negative feedback loops to quiet undesired effects, planning the changes, and reinforcing the changes by selecting natural reinforces. Part C further develops aspects of the systems approach to hypnosis and is comprised of 10 chapters. Topics here include dynamic rebound in paired systems, dissociation, and a systems analysis of indirect questions. Experimentation based on systems theory is discussed, and family therapy and schools of psychotherapy are cataloged from a systems analysis viewpoint. The abstract dynamic patterns of analogies and metaphors are also analyzed from a systems viewpoint, while consciousness is approached from a supersystem vantage point. Finally, the mathematics of linear equations is applied as a reasonable approximation of activity in positive and negative feedback loops, so long as the numbers are reasonably small.

The economics and resource utilization of global SANs are critical for storage service providers. Storage area networks (SANs) have increased the availability of data for local users. In order to extend that availability to remote users, the next stage in the development of storage networking is clear: global storage networks that distribute and share storage resources over a geographically dispersed area. The SAN is becoming a mainstream storage solution because of Fibre Channel, a high-speed connection technology that can extend up to about six miles and transmit data faster than most copper cables. Storage networking allows for campus-wide storage access and separates storage-oriented data from the LAN. Storage networking minimizes the twin pillars of low availability–the single point of failure and lack of access to data. SANs are still limited, however, to the local Fibre Channel fabric. Most enterprises would welcome the opportunity to locate storage resources where space and labor are readily available and affordable. At the same time, storage-pressed sites would welcome the ability to access unallocated storage capacity at a different site. Unfortunately, current SAN technology does not support cost-effective resource management over long distances.

Dullness usually goes with dryness but the wrong use of products can dull hair, as can too much of a product, or you may allow your hair to get dirty so that the dust and grime forms a film and inhibits light reflection. Basically, the best way to banish dull hair is to have it clean. In addition, have it conditioned. Damaged hair doesnt shine as much as virgin hair because damage, whether it is from chemical processing or physical trauma such as rough treatment, raises the hairs cuticle and conditioner used after shampooing helps to flatten the cuticle, and the combination of clean hair and smooth hair aids light reflection. It is the reflection of light that gives hair a shine. All types of hair dont shine in the same way. The most shiny hair is straight, because straight surfaces reflect more light, the least shiny is frizzy curly hair, because the light is deflected from the undulating surface in different directions. Wavy hair, provided the waves are uniform and smooth, can also be quite shiny. There are shine sprays or leave-in conditioners which are mostly used on curly hair. They contain oils and oilicones, which in themselves help to reflect light. However to much of this type of product tends to coat the hair and attracts dust and dirt.

The authors examine the usefulness of postmodernism in career counseling. Specifically, a case is made for broadening career counseling theories and techniques to feature the contextual influences inherent in each individuals unique career history. A career intervention, titled the Career-O-Gram, is introduced as a tool for exploring contextual influences on career development. A case study is presented to demonstrate the application of the Career-O-Gram. Career development theorists focus on the plethora of developmental, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and sociological influences that affect individual career development. Inextricably combined with these influences are individual personalities, skills, interests, values, and knowledge of occupations. Developmental, interpersonal, social, and intrapersonal influences all combine in career exploration and decision making. Given the magnitude of interest in career development influences articulated from various theoretical viewpoints, it seems logical to deduce that exploring these influences with clients would be beneficial. Examining multiple influences is a cornerstone concept of postmodern philosophy, which is currently affecting the counseling profession, in general, and, to a lesser degree, the field of career counseling (McNamee Gergen, 1995; Sexton Griffin, 1997). Postmodernism, also referred to as post-positivist or constructivist thought, emphasizes plurality of perspectives, contextual impacts, social constructions of reality, and the importance of the meaning individuals give to their experiences. From a postmodern perspective, theories (including career development theories) are not built on facts, but rather facts are derived from theory (Hayes Oppenheim, 1997). Proponents of postmodern career interventions (Peavy, 1997; Savickas, 1993) focus on exploring the meaning clients place on their careers. The emphasis here is on the contextual factors that influence clients career development. Career interventions that are based in modern philosophy focus on identifying specific traits of individuals and then placing those individuals in corresponding career categories. Thus, modernists search for “fit,” and postmodernists search for “meaning” in helping clients articulate their career goals. Modern thought predominated in an era when an individual might expect to hold few jobs over his or her life span, and work was a thing to be “done”; it had little to do with the measure of personal worth (Kennedy, 1998). Postmodernism is alive in an era of fast-paced change in which career decisions take on personal meanings that are related to self-esteem, and the concept of career is a lifelong and ever-changing process (Kennedy, 1998).
